Fashion News: London Fashion Week 'Fashion International'

SPRING SUMMER 2014 SHOWS FRIDAY 13TH AND SATURDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER 2013

London Fashion Week September 2013 saw the launch of multi-designer designers’ showcase Fashion International.

YUVNA KIM

Mauritian-born London-based women’s wear designer Yuvna Kim’s collections draw inspiration from cultural heritage and tradition, fused with cross-cultural references from across the Indian Ocean.

For SS14, Kim presents BIJOUX, a line of exquisite neutral and ivory evening wear, which nods to 1920s French deco jewellery. Georgette gowns are intricately embroidered with crystals, beads and pearls, and frothy tulle skirts and embellished with delicate feathers.

OMAR MANSOOR

The first Pakistani to show his collection at London Fashion Week in 2008, womens' wear designer Omar Mansoor is best known for his stand-out evening wear which is infused with Eastern elements.

In his SS14 line, Mansoor takes us on a journey through the Golden Age of Opera.  Inspired by the high drama of opera as well as by the opulent interiors of London’s Royal Opera House, the collection features gowns and cocktail in dresses rich velvets and Chantilly lace embellished with intricate filigree embroidery and sequins.  Sleek silhouettes are presented in rich jewel tones, royal blue and black.

HOUSE OF MOBE

Design trio Paulina Adeniran, Nancie Sam-Amoye and Johanet Soname launched House of Mobe in 2010.

House of Mobe’s SS14 collection presents timeless cocktail dresses, gowns and tailored separates with an of the moment twist.  Classic silhouettes are updated with a graphic look formed of clean construction and asymmetric cuts.

DEE DUCE

Evening wear designer Dee Deuce presents timeless yet of the moment pieces for the modern woman.  Her designs are exclusively produced in the UK in ultra-limited runs.

The SS14 collection looks to the 1920s and 1930s for its long-lined and elegant silhouettes that hail the feminine form.  The collection features sensual silk chiffon, organza and lace gowns in vibrant colour ways, updated with dramatic crystal applique embellishment.

GIANNI LILLIU

Since his shortlist for the 2006 Next Generation Milan, Sardinian designer Gianini Lilliu has gone from strength to strength. His designs demonstrate exquisite tailoring techniques whilst celebrating the female form.

The SS14 collection draws from the sculptor David Begbie’s studies of steel and bronze mesh.  Lilliu echos Begbie’s intimate studies of the female form with structured crinoline pieces, who’s stark shapes are softened with the juxtaposition of fluid silks in soft, feminine cuts.

WAJAHAT MIRZA

Evening wear designer Wajahat Mirza celebrated the launch of his label this season, at the Fashion International SS14 show.

His first collection, EXOTICA, takes inspiration from the peregrine beauty of exotic birds.  Thus the SS14 line presents playful pieces that feature intricate ruching, pleating and drapery in a riot of bold colours ranging from fuchsia, green, royal blue, red, orange, maroon and purple.  Dip-dyed and reverse-dyed silks and chiffons are hand-embroiders with exquisite crystals, handmade flowers, zari, pipes and beads.

AGA

Creative Director Agnieszka Klaput’s journey began when she was just 12 years old with the family sewing machine.  Thus she developed her design techniques from a young age, into the clean lined aesthetic that defines her label.

Debuting at London Fashion Week for SS14, AGA presents evening dresses and smart separates in a muted colour palette of white, brown, black and grey with hand-painted birds, embellished with crystal and beaded detailing.

LUNA SKY

London-based evening wear designer Luna Sky specialises in bespoke red carpet-worthy gowns and cocktail dresses that are characterised by their timeless aesthetic that hail the feminine form.

For SS14, Luna Sky takes inspiration from style icon Audrey Hepburn, presenting long-lined, fluid silhouettes that ring of elegance and grace.  Ethereal gowns are intricately hand-embellished or detailed with delicate laser cutting, and classic separates facilitate an easy transition from day to night.
